The In-Between of Becoming

I've been saying for years that it's always awkward before it's elegant. And this is especially true for the space in between our becoming... from the moment we declare that we're "becoming the woman who... ______________________ (fill in your own blank)". It can be becoming the woman who takes exquisite care of herself (no matter how busy) or becoming the woman who is amazing with money (no matter how chaotic at the moment), or becoming the woman who makes beautiful requests that others are thrilled to fulfill (no matter how unlikely this may feel from your past)... just because she's declared that she's becoming THAT woman!

So, in that space in between, from the moment one declares and makes that commitment, a certain letting go has to occur. A letting go of the old, of the familiar, of the seemingly reliable and comfortable, of the stepping in to try new things, of the forward failure of trying these new things.

​It's much like the caterpillar going through the chrysalis to become the butterfly. 

The chrysalis is messy. That in-between is awkward.

And once in the chrysalis, I believe the caterpillar is in the process until it's complete... it doesn't get to change its mind.  As human beings, we can just stop and remain the same... although that's usually not very satisfying, yet we do it all the time.

So how can you travel through the messy and awkward in-between, staying true to your path, until you make it out elegantly?

Here are three distinctions you must be aware of:​

1) Make your decision from a deep desire to go through this growth. Far too often we embark on making a shift out of "should" or "obligation" or "what's expected of us." Not one of these reasons will support you. So get clear as to why this matters and why this truly important to you.

​2) Once you've made a deep desire choice to become the woman who... trusts herself and her decisions, owns her word with herself, has committed to becoming her unleashed Future Self, is ready to release her weight, who up levels her relationship (to self and others) your expectation is key. 

So often, I've made commitments, done the work, practiced the mindset shifts, and underneath it all, did not shift my expectation... so an under-current of energy was stronger than all the work I was putting into the accomplishment of this in-between state.. Mindset alone will not do this. There are essential steps that must be honored: Request, Trust, Expect, Expand, Receive, Give.

​3) Take it on as a FUN challenge. Now as someone who jokes about being born serious, making it fun is already a challenge. And yet, I can also see the places in my life where the challenge was invigorating. Make it THAT. For me, an old example was when I declared that I was going to run a marathon (many years ago) and at the time I could run at most four miles on a good day. 

I had many challenging runs during my 6-month training. I also had blissful, easy, fluid 15-plus mile runs that made me feel unlimited. And that's what we're going for in life... feeling unlimited, unleashed, unbound in all that we can become!

It's not to always make it easy. And it's also not to always make it hard as though the journey is only worthy if we struggle. If you pay attention to the language you often use, you'll notice that we honor the struggle which is often why we crave ease. 

So, right now, my invitation to you is to be open in your desire to grow and become the woman who _________________________________. The beauty here is that you get to say, choose, declare, and be in that journey to create your own inner and outer rich life.
