Are you aware of the effect of your business on your body? How about the effect of your body on your business? Or perhaps it’s simply the effect of your body on your family, and the effect of your family on your body? No matter how you slice it up, there is a correlation between the health of your body and the health of what you give your attention to, whether it be family, business, or both.
When you give a great deal of attention to an area of your life and you don’t give equally good attention to the care of your body, you feel it. I can look back at this even when I was in the corporate world. I spent 12 years at a top management consulting firm and the habit of working really hard, even though I loved it, took a toll on my body. Back then, I used to go to the gym. Work out hard. Aerobics, step classes, skiing (when I lived in New England). Then, in 2000, I discovered yoga. I started going to yoga classes three times per week after work, while still working at the same consulting firm (now in Atlanta). Practicing yoga was the beginning of understanding the power of my body - what my body is truly capable of, and I began to cultivate a new relationship (of much appreciation) for my body. Truth be told, I fell in love with my body! When I quit my corporate job and became a stay-at-home mom, I dove deeply into yoga, healing, and martial arts. I loved the power I felt in my body. I’m focusing on the body right now because I see a great deal of women - whether they be moms, entrepreneurs, or both - get exhausted and overwhelmed with family, with business, with trying to do both, and if left behind, the body will eventually slow you down to a screeching halt, until you pay attention and listen. And if you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about. Everything in your life will take second place until you bring your body back to vitality. When I begin to think about how we try to “fit it in” to exercise, move the body, take care of the body, for many it still feels like a “should.” For some, it’s a welcome moment of personal time. Over the past year, I realized that taking care of the body with as much attention as I take care of my business is actually a must for the success of my business. Without taking care of the body, the mindset suffers. Without taking care of the body, business suffers. Without taking care of the body, family suffers. The body is my vehicle, my temple, and it deserves to be treated mindfully, with love, honor, and respect. When my body is out of tune, so is my vibration. The success of my business depends on me keeping my vibration high. The success I desire as a mother, as a woman in a relationship with a fabulous man, also depends on keeping my vibration high. This is not the place to cheat - you’re only cheating yourself, cheating your life. Here is what I want to bring your attention to: MINDFULNESS. Don’t just go through the motions to say you did. Please, you deserve so much better than that. Bring mindfulness to the experience. Love your body. Honor your body. Respect your body. How do you do that? Get inside. Connect from within. Imagine the parts of your body that you are loving, honoring, and respecting. Touch your body with your palms. Massage your body from the top of your head, down to your neck. Massage your cheeks. Move down to your shoulders. Your palms, your arms, your chest. Move to your back, your kidneys, your waist. Continue to your abdominal organs. Warm up your palms. Massage your stomach, your liver and then move to the center, two inches below your belly-button and spend time there. Feel the warmth. Bring mindfulness to the area and send love, honor and respect for all that your body does for you, even while you sleep. Move to your hips, then your thighs, front and back. Massage your kneecaps and move down to your calves, your ankles and your feet. Massage your feet, like a reflexology massage. Feel the love. Feel the gratitude. Drink a lot of alkaline water. I learned from one of my clients, an acne specialist in Atlanta, that if you drink water with lemon or water with apple cider vinegar, once you drink it, it becomes alkaline in the body. Try it. See what you like and drink as much alkalinity as you can. You will begin to feel the effect on your body. Bring awareness to the experience. Mindfulness is key to the health of your body. Mindfulness is essential to the quality of your life. Get a lot of sleep. Go to bed early and get the hours before midnight - these are some of the most restorative hours for your body. Begin to generate life from within. What do you want to create today? What experience to you desire to have today? How do you want your body to feel today? What kind of energy do you want to come from today? You get to say! Create it! Bring vitality to your body. Aliveness to your mind. Success to your life and to your business. It is all available to you. As a matter of fact, it’s already within you. You just have to bring it forth. Join the conversation.
